Stephanie Sage Brecq is a harvard-trained filmmaker and general creative based in the NYC and Atlanta areas.
Hi—I’m Stephanie Brecq, a filmmaker, designer, and lifelong storyteller based out of the NYC and Atlanta areas. My work spans documentary, production design, costuming, social media, and beyond—but at its core, it’s all about people. I’m drawn to the details that make us human: the objects we keep close, the clothes we choose, the rooms we build around ourselves. Whether I’m behind a camera, backstage with a prop in hand, or crafting a brand’s voice online, I’m always chasing the emotional truth that makes something resonate.
I was born in New Jersey and spent my early childhood in New Mexico and Texas before returning to New Jersey in adolescence. From a young age, I had a passion for storytelling, joining an improv group in second grade that pulled me out of my shell and sparked a deep curiosity about those around me. I’ve always been driven by the desire to understand people and to hopefully make them laugh along the way. I took on a rigorous schedule of academics and arts throughout middle and high school, and I ultimately attended Harvard College, where I earned my degree in Film Production and Social Anthropology.
My own complicated home life and struggles with mental health shaped my teen and collegiate years. These experiences taught me invaluable lessons in healing and recognizing the complexities of the world around me. It’s these lessons that I aim to bring into my work, creating characters and stories that reflect the raw complexities of real life. My senior thesis, Bittersweet Company, exemplifies this goal, blending my passion for storytelling with my desire to show characters in a way that’s rarely seen—full of nuance and real emotion.
I’ve worked in theatre production, photography, social media management, and more. I’ve made props that puff smoke on cue, helped produce engaging content for brands, and collaborated closely with artists and creatives to bring visions to life. My approach is driven by curiosity and adaptability, and I love to take on challenges that push me to learn and grow along the way.
I’m passionate about fashion, especially vintage, and about finding self-expression in the details. I care about justice, community, and creating things that feel alive. I thrive in teams that communicate deeply and move quickly. And above all else, I love a challenge—especially one that asks me to learn something new and make it work.
This is a space to share my work, my worlds, and the stories I’ve helped shape. Thanks for stopping by.
